Description
This building is an outbuilding located at 64 and 65 Marine Road in Port Bannatyne, dating from the earlier 19th century. It consists of a pair of two-storey houses with an attic, arranged in a symmetrical four-bay block. The structure is made of coursed, whitewashed rubble sandstone with cherry-cocking and features raised, painted margins. It has a raised base course, a lintel course beneath the corniced eaves, and a painted blocking course. The corners are defined by narrow strip quoins, and the openings have tooled long and short surrounds, projecting cills, and pilastered entrances. The side of the building is finished with harl-pointed rubble sandstone, and there is a single-storey painted rubble sandstone outbuilding to the southwest.
On the northeast elevation facing Marine Road, there are paired entrances at ground level. One entrance has a replacement timber door offset to the right with a small-pane fanlight, while the other has a timber panelled door offset to the left with a replacement fanlight. Surrounding the doors is a decorative doorpiece with flanking pilasters, a plain frieze, a cornice, a block pediment, and a raised keystone. The first floor features single windows in the two central bays, with additional single windows on both floors in the outer left and right bays. Above, there are three-light, bowed dormers aligned with timber mullions.
The ground floor has 6-pane upper and plate-glass lower timber sash and case glazing, while the remaining openings have 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, has raised skews, and features replacement rainwater goods. There is a corniced sandstone apex stack on the northwest side and a mutual rendered ridge stack on the southeast side, along with various circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The outbuilding on the west elevation facing Duncan Street has single openings and a grey slate piended roof with a corniced ridge stack and circular cans.
