War Memorial, Gully Bridge, Shandon

The War Memorial at Gully Bridge in Shandon was designed by A N Paterson & Stoddart around 1920. It features a red sandstone Celtic cross with a three-stage shaft, a ring cross head, and a pedestal base adorned with Art Nouveau detailing.

On the southwest side of the cross, there is a shouldered pedestal that holds a bronze plaque listing names. The base is inscribed with the words, "Give thanks O Heart for the high souls that point us to the deathless goals." The bordered shaft showcases Art Nouveau detailing with tendril-like foliage entwining at the arms, and the lowest stage is inscribed with the phrase, "and the leaves of the Tree were for the healing of the nations." The cross head is decorated with a leaf motif and a central boss, while the northeast side of the cross remains blank.
