32 Argyle Street West, Helensburgh

32 Argyle Street West in Helensburgh is an earlier 19th century single-storey classical villa with a rectangular plan. The villa was modified into a T-plan by the addition of a service wing in the mid-19th century, and an attic was added around 1920. The building features a classical porch and is constructed from stugged red sandstone rubble, with some harling and ashlar margins. It has a base course, architraved windows on the south side, a cornice, and a blocking course.

On the south elevation facing Argyle Street West, there is a central door with a corniced Doric columned porch, a small-pane fanlight, and a flush panelled door, along with a modern glazed vestibule door. Windows flank the entrance. The east side elevation has a window on the outer left. The north rear elevation includes a single-storey wing with a door on the west face and features mostly 12-pane sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with tall ashlar corniced end stacks and original cans. There are flat-roof slate-hung dormers on the south side and abutting stacks on the east and west, boxed to the north.

Inside, the villa has plain cornices and simply detailed timber chimneypieces, with a black marble chimneypiece in the present drawing room. The property also includes narrow ashlar gatepiers and timber gates.
