Description
1 Channonry Wynd in Brechin is likely of 17th century origin but mainly reflects late 18th to early 19th century architectural styles. This building is a combination of two-storey and single-storey sections, located next to the west wall of the Cathedral graveyard. It is constructed from rubble sandstone with squared dressings.
On the southeast elevation, there are two-storey bays on the right, featuring windows on each floor. To the outer left and right, there are additional windows, with a window located to the right of the centre at ground level. The left side has single-storey bays, with a door on the right and a small window on the far left. A marriage lintel inscribed 'IS 1702 IW' is incorporated into the design, complete with a carved heart.
The northeast elevation has a door flanked by windows to the right of the two-storey bays, with a single window on the first floor and a gabled stone wallhead dormer above. The rest of this elevation is blank, with a window to the left of the single-storey bays on the right.
The east gable features a blocked first-floor window and a gablehead stack. The west gables include a brick gablehead for the two-storey section, which has a small square attic light to the left, and a stack on the single-storey gable. The building has timber four-pane sash and case windows, along with two plate glass windows. The roof is covered with purple slates and features a cast-iron eaveslight, stone skew to the east, and a stone/concrete ridge.
The interior was not seen in 1997.
