10, 12 River Street, Montrose

10 and 12 River Street in Montrose is a mid-19th century building featuring a hexagonal tower that was added to an early 19th-century two-storey house. The structure is constructed from sandstone ashlar and includes band courses above the ground, first, and second floors, along with a crenellated parapet. The building has chamfered margins and battered cills.

On the northeast (principal) elevation, the tower is positioned at the center of the house and features pointed arch windows on two faces, one of which is blinded. The windows have moulded astragals that create Y-tracery, and there is a doorway to the left. The first floor has three plain windows, two of which are blinded. The second floor contains block slit windows with trefoil heads, and a parapet sits above. The attached house has lined render and includes single bays flanking the tower, with an additional door to the right at ground level.

The boundary walls and gatepiers consist of a rubble boundary wall at the front (northeast) with moulded and battered coping. To the right, there is an octagonal, capped pier. The gatepiers at the center are square in section, corniced, and feature decorative wrought-iron arched lamp brackets.
