Description
The stables and dovecot at Meldrum House date back to 1628 and are arranged in a U-plan block. They were altered in the late 18th century with the addition of coach-houses and some minor changes from the Simpson period. The gatehouse features a dovecot on the upper floor, which has corbelled angle pinnacles and displays a fine Royal Arms on the northwest face. The ground floor is tunnel-vaulted and includes arched recesses on either side, with two bosses in the main vault and one in the soffits of the recesses. The northwest arch is richly rusticated, while a later chamfered outer portal overshadows it, and the southeast arch is roll-moulded. The wings are two-storey and harled, with mostly original openings that are chamfered. Semi-circular coach house arches were inserted in the late 18th century, possibly in 1777, as indicated by a detached panel.
