Stables And Dovecot, Gogar Mount House, Glasgow Road, Edinburgh

The stables and dovecot at Gogar Mount House, located on Glasgow Road in Edinburgh, date back to the early 19th century. This symmetrical L-plan stable block is situated to the west of the main house and is constructed from coursed whinstone, featuring stugged sandstone ashlar margins and dressings. It has a base course and broad eaves.

On the northeast elevation, there are seven symmetrical bays. The tall, corniced central bay projects above the eaves and features a blocking course. It has a round-headed cart arch at the center, which is now blocked and has chevroned wood panelling that houses the dovecot, along with a two-leaf wooden door. The arch is adorned with ashlar voussoirs. The two bays on either side of the central bay have windows, with the right-side window being blind. The end bays are slightly advanced and contain blind round-headed windows.

The court elevation shows the dovecot on the inner side of the arch-head, which has tiered flight-holes. To the right, there is a segmental archway with a small window located under the eaves directly above it. A window is also present to the left of the arch.

The eastern range features a variety of windows and doors, including a forestair to the outer left. To the south, there are gatepiers that support two-leaf wooden gates, made with droved sandstone piers.
