Description

Circa 1900; additions to rear. Single storey and attic, 3-bay cottage retaining unusually fine detail and interior, and paired with No 25 Slug Road. Heavily stugged Aberdeen bond ashlar with tooled ashlar dressings; coursed, squared rubble to sides and rear; harl and brick extensions. Base and eaves courses. Stone mullions and stop-chamfered arrises.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Centre bay with broad 9-panelled timber door, flanking pilasters, narrow outer lights and pilastered jambs, all under dentilled cornice and 3-part fanlight, small piended wallhead dormer window above. Flanking bays each with canted dormer window under reducing slate roof abutting base of smaller dormer with polygonal roof.

NW ELEVATION: broad gabled elevation with single window to left and right of centre.

UPVC sash and case effect glazing. Grey slates. Coped ashlar gablehead stacks with full-complement of polygonal cans. Ashlar-coped skews with mitre skewputts. Square-section, cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers and fixings.

INTERIOR: good decorative scheme in place incorporating fine moulded plasterwork cornices and ceiling roses; picture rails; panelled timber reveals and fire surrounds; architraved and panelled timber doors. Encaustic-tiled hall floor and screen door with patterned glass lead to stairhall with decorative plasterwork consoles, dog-leg staircase with decorative cast-iron balusters; principal ground floor rooms with paired round-arched alcoves and flanking fluted columns.
