Description

Christian's House, located at 28, 30, and 32 High Street in Stonehaven, is a terraced tenement building dating back to 1712. It stands three stories tall with an attic and features five bays. The building has a crowstepped design and includes an artisan pilastered and canopied doorpiece, along with a later decorative wrought-iron lampholder mounted on cast-iron stands. There are two-storey wings at the rear.

The exterior is constructed with large squared rubble blocks, accented by raised long and short ashlar quoins and raised margins. A base course and voussoired relieving arch add to its architectural detail, along with splayed margins.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, with the center bay at ground level featuring a six-panelled timber door set in a modern doorway. To the left of this door is an ironwork lampholder and a metal plaque. Flanking bays contain part-glazed timber doors, with the left door situated under a relieving arch, which may have been altered from a segmental-arched pend. The outer bays have fixed windows. The first and second floors display regular fenestration, with canted slate-hung dormer windows over the outer bays and three modern rooflights in the center, linked by a shallow mansard roof.

The windows are heavily detailed replacement timber sash and case types with plate glass glazing and trickle vents. The roof is covered with grey slates, featuring crowstepped skews and a truncated stack on the northwest side.
