Description

A.Marshall Mackenzie, dated 1899. Rectangular church on

sloping site built over raised basement with principal gable

and flanking tower to Duff Street. Dark whinstone,

contrasting tooled and polished ashlar dressings.

W gable lit by large pointed-headed window with intersecting

tracery. 3-stage tower with spire slightly set back at SW

with pointed-headed recessed entrance in base closed by

double-leaf plank doors with ornate cast-iron hinges. Pointed

headed mullioned and transom windows in each face of upper

stage of tower; corbelled wallhead with angle water spouts;

slender square slated pyramidal spire with apex cast-iron

weathervane.

5-bay long elevations with additional gabled porch in S to

Clergy Street. Canted east end; cross finial at gable apices;

slate roof.

INTERIOR: simple galleried interior; canted E end with organ

fronted by cusped panelled pulpit. 3-sided gallery with

panelled front; simple chequered coloured glazing except at E

where windows have some coloured glazing. Pine pews and plank

dado.
