Description
This is a mid-19th century fish store located on Shorehead, Johnshaven. It consists of three parallel, single-storey ranges, each featuring arched openings. The exterior is constructed of stugged pink ashlar stone with brick used for the arch rings. The building originally had 11 arched openings, now blocked, facing Foregate, with a central doorway. Three loft openings are positioned above the doorway. The central gables contain 4-centred arched openings. Inside, the fish store features two rows of cast-iron columns (six in each row) that support timber beams. The building is shown on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey Map, surveyed in 1901 and published in 1904, and is documented in J Geddes’s 2001 architectural guide, Deeside and the Mearns, on page 34.
