Description

The harbour at Johnshaven dates to 1871 and 1884. It consists of two piers, constructed from rubble stone with concrete inner harbour walls. The northern pier has a later extension and a curved bastion guarding the harbour entrance. A slipway leads from the roadside, descending to the landward side of the harbour which is defined by sloping walls. Further details are provided in P Murton’s “A brief Survey of Johnshaven” (1982) and Hume’s “The industrial Archaeology of Scotland, vol 2” (1977).
