Seaview Cottage, The Old School House, Johnshaven

Seaview Cottage and The Old School House form a terrace consisting of a former school building, schoolhouse, and two cottages, constructed in two phases. The two two-storey, three-bay cottages at the eastern end likely date to around 1850. The school rooms and schoolhouse were built in 1854. The entire complex is single-storey, with the schoolhouse featuring two canted dormers leading to an attic space. The exterior is harled with long and short tooled dressings, and has slate roofs. Corniced stacks are present, with a more elaborate design at the western end. The schoolhouse has a central door flanked by bipartites (potentially inserted around 1870), along with a lower, matching lean-to at the western gable. The former school room projects centrally, featuring a door to its left. A finialled gabled projection is present, housing a multi-pane sash and case window on the ground floor and a smaller window in the gablehead. The former school windows have been replaced with modern four-pane glazing on Fernlea.
