Description
The Wall and Deer Dykes at Ellon Castle were likely built around 1715 but underwent significant rebuilding in the 1850s. The structure is quadrilateral, measuring approximately 400 by 300 yards, and is constructed of rubble. The eastern gate features gatepiers that are alternately fluted and rusticated, topped with ball finials. The southern gate, located on Castle Road, has square piers with angle rustication and ogee and ball cupping, and is flanked by footgates that have been extensively repaired.
