Ellon Castle

Ellon Castle was originally built as offices in 1725 and was rebuilt in an H-plan layout, likely by John Baxter between 1781 and 1785. It was later incorporated into a new house designed by James Matthews of Mackenzie & Matthews in 1851. The main part of Matthews' house was demolished in 1927, and the remaining offices were converted into a mansion.

The building is two stories high, with a low first floor, eaves, and a bell cast roof featuring irregular H-plan crowstepped gables from 1851 or possibly modern alterations. The front door, designed by Baxter, is inscribed with "GEORGE EARL OF ABERDEEN 1785" and features an architrave and a segmental pediment that is broken by an armorial panel taken from the old castle. Additionally, a dormer head and a coat of arms from 1851 have been inserted into the walls.
