Ellon Parish Church, Castle Road, Ellon

Ellon Parish Church, located on Castle Road in Ellon, was built between 1776 and 1777 as a simple rectangular structure made of coursed granite. It features a west bellcote and keyblocked semi-circular arches, with doors on the west, southeast, and southwest sides. The church underwent significant repairs by builder George Clerihew in 1828-1829 and a large renovation in 1876 by George Marr. An organ chamber with a three-sided apse was added to the center of the south front in 1884, along with other alterations by George Marr and W. Davidson from Ellon. In 1907, William Kelly made further changes, including a new ceiling and additional repairs.

The narthex was added, the east doorway was removed, and the east window was lengthened. The horseshoe gallery was taken out, and the organ chamber was converted into a memorial apse by D. Kinghorn in collaboration with H. G. West and Associates during 1967-1968. A bell from Baird and Ellis of Aberdeen was installed in 1828. A weathered sculpture on the south wall marks the site of the Waterton aisle, and a somewhat weathered symbol stone is now built into the east gable.
