Description
Foveran Parish Church is an ecclesiastical building dating to 1794. Originally constructed as a simple rectangular structure with round arches, it features a four-window southern flank, a door in each gable, and a plain, ball-capped bellcote at the west end. The exterior is faced with granite, accented by red dressings and skewputts. The church was repaired in 1852 by William Buyers, and reseated in 1871. Galleries were renewed in 1877 by William Christie, consisting of a horseshoe shape supported by cast iron columns and featuring arcades at the upper level. An organ chamber apse was added to the south flank between 1900 and 1901, potentially by Jenkins and Marr, who were also undertaking work at the manse at that time. The church contains a number of noteworthy monuments, including those dedicated to Andrew Robertson (+1817), John Robertson (+1824), George and Alex Udny (+1788, sculpted by John Bacon R. A.), and John Augustus Udny (+1859). A bell from Mears and Stainbank, originally cast in 1760, was recast in 1905. The manse previously associated with the church has been demolished and replaced.
