Foveran House

Foveran House is a large house built in 1771. It was constructed for an Aberdeen merchant on the site of the former castle of the Turings of Foveran, of which no remains are visible. The original house is a two-storey and basement structure with a five-window front, built of quoined granite ashlar. A central wallhead gable, a porch, and a see-back are prominent features. Later, single-storey wings were added, along with considerable alterations and additions in 1885 by Matthews and Mackenzie. This work included the addition of a harled tower with ogee-capped, Jacobean-style angle turrets which form a court. An unfortunate, late 1st-floor stuccoed addition was built over the porch.
