Description
The Old Customs House, located at Harbour Place in Banff, is a mid-18th century, three-storey building designed in a T-plan. It features a three-storey, three-bay facade facing Harbour Place and a two-storey elevation on Sheriffs Brae. The building has modern harling with painted tooled ashlar margins on the Harbour Place side, while the other sides are rendered and painted.
On the Harbour Place frontage, there is a round-headed arch with a keystone and ashlar margins, dating from around 1970, located in the center of the ground floor. This arch has blocked imposts and is flanked by windows that still have their original shutter hooks. The rest of the windows display regular fenestration with modern plate glass glazing.
The Sheriffs Brae frontage features a doorway situated in the re-entrant angle of the two-storey L-plan range, accompanied by irregular fenestration. The building has coped end stacks and a slate roof.
