Description
The Green Fountain on Castle Street in Aberdeen is a former wellhead, designed by William Lindsay around 1710. Although it is no longer functioning, it has been relocated from the east end of Castle Street. The fountain has a square plan and is topped with a small semi-nude male lead figure. It is constructed from coursed sandstone and features a base course and a deep cornice. At each corner of the cap, there are carved stone Green-man type heads that serve as spouts. Additionally, there is a small carved lion's head spout and a wrought iron lamp bracket on the east face, as well as a cast-iron hinged opening on the west face.
