Description
3-5 King Street in Aberdeen is a classical tenement building designed by Archibald Simpson in 1839. It stands three stories tall and features four bays, with shops located on the ground floor. The building is constructed from grey granite ashlar and has banded rustication on the ground street elevation. A blocking course is present, along with a central consoled wallhead panel. The windows are adorned with architraves and cornices, and there are cill courses as well. The central entrance door is flanked by plate glass shop fronts that have timber stall risers and a fanlight-style glazing pattern in the upper lights. To the far left, there is a segmental arched doorway with a timber door and coloured glass sidelights.
The upper storeys contain timber plate glass sash and case windows. The interior has been modernised and altered for office use in 2006. The shop to the right features a central segmental archway supported by two Corinthian columns and has dentilled cornicing.
