Description
Grimsby Chambers is a commercial building located at 168-174 Market Street in Aberdeen, designed by Cameron & Watt in 1900. This three-storey and attic structure features a six-bay and three-bay design in the Free Style architectural style, situated on a corner site. It has shaped gables with pediments and distinctive ogival roofs at the corners, along with a variety of window openings. The building is constructed from pitted grey granite, with a pink granite base course, and includes a deep cornice over the pilastered ground floor and an eaves course.
The elevations are asymmetrical, with a chamfered corner entrance on the southwest side that has a four-leaf panelled timber door and a small oval fanlight. On the southern side, there are round arched windows at the ground level, with two-light canted bay windows above, and a panel displaying the name 'GRIMSBY CHAMBERS'. The western side features a two-leaf timber entrance door to the right, also with an oval fanlight and a balustraded balcony above. The ground floor includes non-traditional shop windows, while the second storey has round arches with deeply recessed windows.
The building predominantly features four, six, and eight-pane timber sash and case windows over plate glass. It has a grey slate roof, tall corniced wallhead and gable stacks, and cast iron rainwater goods and hoppers.
