Smoke House, 11, 12, 15 and 16 Russell Road

The Smoke House located at 11, 12, 15, and 16 Russell Road is likely from the mid-20th century and has been altered. It features a rectangular plan and is constructed of large brown bricks with a slated roof. The roof has a full-width raised ridge ventilator that includes timber-louvered openings, gabletted ends, and a slated capping.

On the southwest elevation, there is a set-back gable that rises above a low single-storey fish house, with an additional second floor on the left side (No 11) and window slapping on the right side (No 12). There is also a further second-floor extension set back at the outer right.

The northeast elevation is a blank gabled wall that rises above low single-storey fish houses.

Inside, No 11 retains its original kiln interior, which is accessed through two stable-type vertically-boarded timber doors within the fish house. The interior is divided, with both smoking spaces featuring woodsmoke blackened walls and evidence of tenter hanging ledges. The kiln interior at No 12 has been converted into storage and bothy accommodation.
