Description

Circa 1854. Rough-faced, coursed granite viaduct from Ferryhill to Guild Street Station. 2 painted metal bridges under viaduct at Palmerston Place and Riverside Drive, channelled rustication to piers, tiled inside returns with round-arched doorways under bridge; latticed parapets on pierced ironwork brackets, flanked to left and right by advanced, stepped-up finely finished terminating blocks, coped with dentil mouldings. 14 round-arched openings with painted brick arch-rings to centre between bridges, 10 to SE, 11 to NE, and 2 to NW, many infilled with retail units; 11 open brick lined arches and 2 infilled to SW. Advanced, stepped-up finely finished dividing blocks to parapet, coped with dentil mouldings. Blank walls swept round to NE and SE.
