Description
5 and 6 Devanha Terrace in Ferryhill, Aberdeen, date from around 1840 and form a two-storey, basement, and attic terrace with 15 bays, comprising 8 flats. The building is constructed from tooled coursed grey granite, which is finely finished at the edges. The ground floor windows feature panelled aprons, and there are panelled timber doors with letterbox fanlights. The doorways are corniced with consoles, and the first floor has projecting cills. The eaves course and canted dormers are present on the attic floor.
The east (principal) elevation is asymmetrical with a variety of basements, some of which have been infilled. Number 2 has a doorway in the centre of the ground floor, flanked by a single window on each side. There are three regularly spaced windows on the first floor and two dormers on the attic floor, along with a modern skylight in the centre. Numbers 3 to 8 have doorways flanked on the left by either a single window or a pair of windows, with two windows on the first floor and two dormers on the attic floor, as well as irregularly placed skylights.
The north elevation is near-symmetrical with a gabled design. The doorway to number 1 is located on the outer right of the ground floor, with a pair of windows at the centre of both the ground and first floors.
The west elevation is asymmetrical, featuring irregularly arranged doors and windows, with some later lean-to additions at the ground floor. The attic floor has predominantly modern rectangular dormers.
The south elevation is obscured by the adjoining terrace. The building primarily has four-pane timber sash and case windows, with some modern glazing. The roof is made of graded grey slate with a lead ridge, and it features coped skews with blocked skewputts. The gablehead and ridge stacks are corniced, with circular and octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods are also present.
The interiors were not seen in 1999. The property includes decorative iron railings with anthemion finials on a low granite wall to the east of the terrace, and brick and granite coped rubble walls at the rear. There are remains of decorative iron railings on a coped granite wall enclosing a garden across the road from the front elevation.
