Description
The Herring-Curing Station at Mirkady Point is an earlier 19th century, two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan fishing station. It features a lean-to shed at the rear, which is now roofless, and a forestair on the west gable. The building is constructed of random rubble.
On the south elevation, which is the principal front, there is a boarded door at ground level in the central bay, with a blocked window above it on the first floor. To the left, there is a window at ground level and a blocked window above on the first floor. The right bay has a blocked window at each floor.
The north elevation, which is the rear, has a single-storey, four-bay former shed wall. There are former windows in each of the left bays and a former doorway in the outer right bay. Inside, there is a bottle-shaped fireplace on the west wall, with remnants of a rubble stack above. The rear elevation of the fishing station has a centered blocked window at each floor and small ventilation holes along the entire elevation beneath the eaves.
The west side elevation features a rubble screen wall leading to the forestair, with a boarded door set to the right of the gable at the first floor and a gablehead stack above. The outer left side has a blank former shed wall. On the east side elevation, there is a blocked window at the first floor to the right of the gable, with a gablehead stack above and a former shed wall to the outer right.
The building retains a single remaining fixed timber-framed window, while the others are blocked. It has a grey slate roof with coped skews and rubble, corniced stacks. Inside, there are exposed tiebeams and boards for the floor division, and it is currently used as a hay store.
