Description

A two-storey/ three bay vernacular house (with miscellaneous outbuildings) aligned N-S on the W side of Cloghinny Road. Pitched natural slate roof and tiled verges. Brick chimney to each gable and one between left and central bays. Half-round metal rainwater goods. Walls are lined cement-rendered with stepped stucco quoins to façade. All windows are 2/2 exposed box sliding sashes with horns and granite cills (unless otherwise stated). Those to facade are set within reveals with stop-end chamfered heads. Principal elevation faces E to road. Right and left bays each have a window to each floor (those to right have cast-iron bars over). Central bay has a windbreak porch to right and a window at each floor to left. Porch has a flat cement coped roof with decorative cement-rendered parapet. Front E face has a four-panelled timber door; right and left cheeks are blank. Left gable is abutted by a single-storey outbuilding with rubble stone walls and pitched corrugated-metal roof; exposed section is blank. Rear elevation has a two windows to ground floor – one to central and right bays and a window to each bay at first floor. Right gable is blank. Outbuildings: To E of site are two rubble stone outbuildings with pitched natural slate roofs, each placed with left gable directly to the road. That to N is detailed as follows: N face has a pair of t+g sheeted doors set to left and a t+g sheeted door to right with a small timber infilled window opening above. W gable has an infilled loading door. Rear elevation has a small window opening to ground floor centre. E gable (to road) is blank. That to S is longer with skewed gable to road. Its yard (N) face has several brick trimmed door and window openings including a door to upper floor (set to left of centre) accessed by external steps. W gable is blank. Rear elevation has a window opening to first floor, set to left of centre. E (road) gable has a loading door to upper floor. Setting: The house is set close to the road in a mature site with small garden to front. It is enclosed from the road by a cement-rendered wall and accessed by a pair of wrought-iron gates supported on square-in-section cement-rendered gate piers with pyramidal copings.
