Public Toilets, The Square, Warrenpoint, Newry, Co Down, BT34 3JT

This is a small, utilitarian public toilet building dating from between 1920 and 1939. It occupies a prominent location within the Square in Warrenpoint. The building has a square plan and is a single-storey pavilion. It features a pyramidal pitched roof covered in natural slate, with a metal vent finial and a parapet gutter. The walls are painted lined render with a chamfered basecourse, a moulded frieze rail, a plain advanced cornice, and a plain blocking course. All windows are semicircular, timber-framed, and divided into three equal width panes by vertical glazing bars, with a moulded render architrave and a keystone that meets the frieze rail. The doors are modern, constructed from stained t+g sheeted material, and feature semicircular fanlights and architraves mirroring the windows. The southeast and northwest elevations are identical, each featuring two windows with plastic downpipes between them. The northeast and southwest elevations are also identical, each with two central windows and a door at each end. The left door on the northeast elevation has been infilled, with only its keystone remaining. The council spent £1,500 in 1928 constructing these toilets and another block in the Town Park.
