Description

Three bay/ two and a half storey (+ basement) house on N side of road facing the sea. It is the central one of a group of three similar buildings -see also HB16/12/006D and HB16/12/006F. Hipped natural slate roof with a rendered and painted chimneystack to each end. Roof is partially concealed behind a blocking course with dentilled cornice and plain frieze. Front pitch has three dormers - all with pitched natural slate roof. Walls are smooth rendered and painted with stucco quoins to ground and first floor. Stringcourse below eaves level and a moulded cill course to ground floor windows. Balcony to first floor is supported on five decorative cast-iron brackets to either side of central porch (see later). Balcony has decorative scrolled ironwork matching adjoining houses. Ground floor central bay is accessed by a flight of granite steps enclosed to either side by a rendered and painted wall with granite copings. Wall supports modern loop-headed railings. Steps fall away to left and right bays to basement (see later). Middle bay of ground floor has a single-storey porch. Walls are as façade with boxed quoins and moulded stringcourse. Its left and right cheeks have a modern timber door with plainly glazed fanlight over. Above stringcourse is a decorative lugged and eared panel. Its front face has a large semi-elliptical window opening with moulded stucco head resting on stringcourse and with granite cill. Openings contain a pair of reproduction semicircular-headed 1/1 fixed windows with plain spandrel over. To left and right of porch, each bay has a tripartite window with moulded eared architrave and granite cill. All windows are exposed box 1/1 sliding sashes. First floor has a window to each bay, all with eared and lugged architraves. All windows are diminished in height 2/2 sliding sashes. Dormers each have a dentilled pedimented gable and dentilled eaves. Each dormer has a pair of 1/1 casements Basement is rendered and painted with a window to each exposed bay, flanking steps. Both windows are 2/2 exposed box sliding sashes (vertically divided) with granite cill. The middle bay of the basement is entered by a modern timber door on each cheek of the external steps. Left gable is abutted by adjoining house (HB16/12/006D) and the exposed section is blank. Rear elevation is all modern, it has deck access to doors of modern apartments (of no interest). Right gable is abutted by adjoining house (HB16/12/006F) and the exposed section is blank. Setting. The frontage is paved with a rendered and painted dwarf wall carrying decorative loop-headed metal railings with Grecian palmette finials.
