83 Hill Street, Newry, Co Down, BT34 1DG

The site at 83 Hill Street, Newry, originally contained an early 19th-century building that was significantly altered in the mid-19th century. This structure was surveyed in November 1969 and shown on an 1835 Ordnance Survey map. A 1863 valuation book described it as a four-and-a-third storey house. The 1969 survey card noted an early 19th-century four-storey building with rendered walls and a slated roof. It had a shop on the ground floor, featuring a prominent four-light display window, and upper floors with double-hung windows containing glazing bars. A square eaves cornice was also present. The building was raised, or substantially altered, in the mid-19th century and attributed to the architect G.W. Reside. The building has now been replaced by a modern two-and-a-half-storey red brick structure of no particular architectural interest. It formerly operated as a shop. The site is within the Carneyhough townland and located within a conservation area.
