This is a modern building constructed between 1960 and 1979, featuring a reinforced-concrete frame clad in a polished granite façade on its west-facing side fronting Hill Street. A granite plaque, originally from a previous Post Office on the site, is set into the façade at the top left corner. The plaque displays a lion and unicorn flanking a crowned medallion, with the motto "Dieu et mon droit" inscribed on a ribbon scroll below.

The building replaces an earlier Post Office, authorized by the government following representations from the local Chamber of Commerce. The original building, designed by Mr Cochrane, architect to the Board of Public Works in Ireland, and built by Alexander Wheelan of Canal Street, Newry, was completed in 1900 at a cost of £5700 and featured an ornate classical façade of Newry granite. According to historical photographs, the coat of arms was originally positioned between the eaves cornice and pediment. When the original building was replaced in 1961, its coat of arms was incorporated into the new façade.

The building currently operates as a Post Office and is located within the Ballynacraig townland, within a conservation area and owned by a public body.
