Description

This is a small, single-bay, single-story redbrick and slated building, originally part of Moneymore Railway Station. While potentially dating back as far as 1860, it is more likely to have been constructed around 1877, coinciding with improvements and increased trade resulting from a direct rail link to Dublin. The building, designed by John Lanyon, housed the instrumentation for the weighbridge, which has since been removed. It features a door opening in the south gable and a single ten-pane horizontal window on the east wall, overlooking the former position of the weighbridge. The roof is slated, with timber fascias, bargeboards, an overhang, and a redbrick chimney on the north gable. Currently used as a store, the structure stands freestanding, approximately two hundred metres from the main station building and in the ownership of a private individual within the garden of 24 Station Road. It represents a valuable piece of industrial heritage and is of industrial archaeological interest.
