Description
The Brewery Bridge, also known as Turnaface Bridge, is a single-span bridge built between 1820 and 1839, crossing the Ballymull River near Moneymore. The bridge is of industrial archaeological interest. Originally featuring a stone arch, the original arch has since been lost and replaced with a series of flat reinforced concrete beams spanning the river. Consequently, much of the parapet walls have been rebuilt. The bridge's span is 5.25 metres, with a width between parapets of 5 metres and an overall length of 14 metres. The stonework is of coursed grey rubble and was originally continuous with adjacent railway bridge. The bridge is shown on an Ordnance Survey Map from 1832, and the railway bridge it was connected to has since been removed. The bridge’s name derives from a former brewery that stood to the west and north of Turnaface Road, now occupied by a modern house. The concrete beam structure is several decades old. Historic maps also document the bridge's presence in 1906.
