Ardmore Bridge, Ballyavelin Road, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT49

Ardmore Bridge, situated on the Ballyavelin Road near Limavady, is a double-arch rubble stone bridge constructed between 1840 and 1859. The bridge appears on an Ordnance Survey map from 1848. It features two arches, each approximately 3.6 metres in span and largely semi-circular, with pointed breakwaters situated upstream. The distance between the parapets is six metres; the parapets themselves are one metre high and 13.5 metres long, terminating in a one-metre-long pier at each end. The parapets have a neatly dressed stone coping. Deep whinstone voussoirs form the arch rings. A 225mm diameter water main crosses the bridge on its upstream side, supported by a steel rolled steel joist spanning the breakwaters. These breakwaters have unfortunately been altered with the addition of mass concrete and concrete block piers. The bridge possesses notable characteristics of industrial archaeological interest.
