Pump, 128 Mullaghboy Road, Bellaghy, Magherafelt, Co. Londonderry

A cow-tailed pump located at the rear of a farmhouse on Mullaghboy Road, Bellaghy. The pump, dating from approximately 1940 to 1959, serves as a significant reminder of a time when drinking water was sourced from wells. It features a closed head lever, a plain, spirally decorated column, a fluted cap, and an acorn finial. The pump was installed second-hand in the 1950s and remained in use until the introduction of mains water in 1963. An earlier pump was situated at the front of the house, as shown on the 1905 Ordnance Survey map (reference PRONI ref OS 10/5/37/6/1), but little remains of it beyond the brass bucket barrel. The pump is of industrial archaeological interest and possesses notable architectural qualities of style, proportion, and ornamentation, alongside local historical significance.
