27-35 Olderfleet Road, Larne, Co Antrim, BT40 1AS

This is a terrace of five, three-story houses built between 1860 and 1879. They are located on Olderfleet Road, Larne, and face the main road overlooking reclaimed land near the harbour. The houses are in the Gothic Revival style and are of handsome proportions, though they have suffered significant loss of character through insensitive alterations and replacements.

The first house, number 27, features a two-story canted bay to the left of the entrance, and its entrance bay is set back and extended an additional storey to create a battlemented tower, which is the most prominent feature of the terrace. Numbers 29 and 31 have had their original roofs, previously covered in Bangor blue slates laid in regular courses, replaced with fibre cement. Chimneys were originally smooth and rendered, but one has been rebuilt in brick (at number 35), one has been removed (at number 27), and all now have modern chimney pots. The walls are dry dash render incorporating limestone chippings, though the render is an inappropriate replacement. New windows, fixed lights with top-hung vents, have replaced the original timber sliding sash windows. The terrace appears on an Ordnance Survey map dated 1903.
