Ferris Point Lighthouse, Ferris Bay Road, Islandmagee, Larne, Co Antrim

The Ferris Point Lighthouse, built between 1835 and 1839 to designs by George Halpin, inspector of lighthouses, was originally located on Ferris Bay Road, Islandmagee, Larne, Co Antrim, in the townland of Ballylumford. It was shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1857. The lighthouse comprised a circular tower with a corbelled railed walkway around the housing, accompanied by two-storey ancillary buildings. The ancillary buildings had rendered walls, flat roofs, parapets, moulded cornices, and vertically divided sash windows set in plain eaved surrounds, with pediments on the ground floor. The lighthouse tower was demolished in 1976 following the construction of a new tower in 1975, and the ancillary buildings were subsequently replaced. The site is recorded as a monument (SMR no. ANT41:25) and is of industrial archaeological interest.
