Description
Knockballymore Bridge is a small-scale bridge of special architectural interest, situated over the River Finn, carrying a one-and-a-half lane road. Constructed between 1820 and 1839, it is shown on the 1834 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map. The bridge consists of two slightly skewed semicircular arches built of random rubble sandstone, with finely dressed sandstone quoins and voussoirs. Angled cutwaters rise to the top of the parapets, with stepped sections accommodating small niches on the roadside. The coped parapets curve outwards at each end. Concrete footings are visible at the abutments and pier. The roadway is slightly humped, and a metal pipe runs across the upstream (west) face. The listing includes the bridge and its surrounding bridge walls. The bridge is of industrial archaeological interest and holds local historical significance.
