Description

A symmetrical two storey / three bay house with bowed central bay aligned NW-SE at the E side of Summerhill Townland. Pitched artificial slate roof with central-valley. There is a large cement-rendered chimney to each gable. Ogee metal rainwater goods. Walls are wet-dashed over a cement-rendered base course with stepped quoins. All dressings are painted cement-rendered. Windows are uPVC top-hung casements with concrete cills (unless otherwise stated). All are 1/1 except those to façade. Principal elevation faces SW. Central bay is bowed and has entrance to front. It consists of a modern double-leaf three panelled timber door with semi-circular transom over, all set in a large pole-moulded stepped reveal with hood-mould and accessed by one bowed stone step. To either side of the door, facing E and S respectively, is a semi-circular headed 1/1 sliding sash window with horns set in a pole-moulded reveal. Left and right bays each have a large 4x2 window. Aligned above ground floor openings are three 3x2 windows That to centre is bowed and all have lugged reveals. Left gable has a window to first floor left and a small square opening to apex. Rear elevation is completely abutted by a two storey return, detailed as house with a double-pile profile. Each pitch has a chimney (detailed as before) to exposed gable. NE elevation of return is abutted to left by a lower extension (see later). The exposed section has three equally spaced windows to each floor. Left (SE) cheek has a window to ground floor, set to right of centre, and a window to either side at first floor. Right (NW) cheek has a window set to right, slightly below first floor level. The extension is detailed as house with a pitched artificial slate roof. NE face has a window to each floor set to right. Right and left cheeks are blank. Right gable is abutted to ground floor right by a later entrance porch. The exposed section has a window to first floor right. Porch is detailed as main block with a hipped artificial slate roof. SE face has a central window. Right cheek has a modern timber door. Left cheek is blank. Setting: Well-concealed by extensive heavily wooded grounds, the house is fronted a semi-circular asphalt forecourt enclosed by a moulded stone balustrade with ball-topped finials. To centre three stone steps (with similarly detailed balusters) lead down to a large sloping lawn which is circumvented by a sweeping driveway. To rear of the house is a farmyard, which in addition to several modern farm structures, contains an interesting original outbuilding (HB12/01/030B). The group is accessed from the road by a driveway with a one-and-a-half storey lodge placed just inside the boundary wall. The lodge is largely ruinous, consists of two bays and is hearth-lobby in plan. Walls are harled, windows are margin paned 1/1 sliding sash windows, doors are t+g sheeted.
