Garden house, Knockballymore, Drumrainy, Co. Fermanagh, BT92 6NA

An unusual eighteenth-century garden house, pleasantly situated on the north bank of the River Finn within the orchard of Knockballymore House. It retains some character and has interesting window glazing, contributing to group value with the listed Knockballymore House and its Stableyard.

The ruinous garden house is a single-story, single-room structure with an octagonal plan. A northern annexe has been lost. The roof, originally natural slate and octagonal, has now collapsed. The walls are constructed of rough-coursed rubble stone, with brick dressings around all openings and stone cills. A tongue-and-groove sheeted door is on the north elevation. Two fixed-pane, Gothic-headed windows with decorative geometric glazing face northeast and southeast respectively. All other elevations are blank.

The building is shown on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map and later editions. It was likely erected shortly after the main house, around 1740, by the Earl of Erne for his agent. The garden house possesses both architectural and local historical interest. It’s currently used as an estate-related structure and remains in a derelict state. It was previously recorded under the reference HB12/01/003.
