Magheramore House, Magheramore, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, BT92 6LR

Magheramore House is a handsome and well-proportioned house erected in the early 1870s that retains much of its original character and forms a pleasant landscape feature.

The building is an L-plan, two-storey, three-bay house with a symmetrical façade aligned NE-SW on the west side of the main Clones to Magheraveely road. The principal elevation faces southeast. It is constructed with harled walls over an advanced and chamfered stone base course, with stepped quoins. The hipped natural slate roof has three chimneys: one positioned to the right-hand side of the rear pitch of the main block and one placed between each bay of the NE elevation. Advanced boxed eaves support rainwater goods.

All windows are 2/2 horizontally divided sliding sashes with horns and stone cills unless otherwise noted. The central bay of the principal elevation contains the entrance door, a double-leaf three-panelled timber door with beaded muntin and plain transom, approached via a raised stone portico on two diminishing stone steps. The portico consists of a plain stone canopy supported on two plain pilasters flanking the door and two Doric columns. Each end bay has a window and a shallow segmental-headed window to the first floor. The central bay has two semicircular-headed windows.

The SW elevation has a window to each floor, with the first-floor window segmental-headed. The NE elevation is three bays wide, with the left and right bays each containing two narrow windows to each floor (first-floor windows are semicircular-headed), and the central bay having a single window to each floor (first-floor window segmental-headed).

The rear elevation is composed of the NW gable of the projecting section and the right-hand side of the main block, with a full-height return in the angle between them. A small single-storey outbuilding abuts the corner where the return meets the main block. The projecting section has a slightly lower two-storey addition abutting its left-hand side. The return has two windows to each floor at the gable, with those to the right-hand side diminished in size. The addition has a sliding sash window to each floor at the SW gable (ground floor 2/4, first floor 4/4) and a modern timber door to the centre of the right cheek. The outbuilding has a monopitched natural slate roof with a timber-sheeted door and small 2x2 fixed-pane window to the NW face, and a 1x3 fixed-pane window to the SW face, all without cills.

According to the Valuation revision book for 1873, the house was valued at £12 10s 0d with a note that "more to be done to house and offices to be built". This work appears to have been completed by 1875, when the valuation increased to £13 12s 0d. The house is cited as Magheramore House in the 1907 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map.
