Description

This is a small, ruinous, single-story, two-bay house situated within the Mourne Park Estate, northwest of Ballymageogh Road, near Kilkeel, County Down. The house, aligned north-south on a raised bank, is shown on a map from 1834 and likely dates from the late 18th to early 19th century (1800-1819).

The architectural style is modest, with walls of squared granite rubble laid in courses. The roof is entirely gone, but a projecting brick eaves course indicates a canted south elevation and a hipped north elevation. A coped and cement-rendered brick chimney is located on the party wall between the two bays. The east elevation has two bays, with the bay on the right being wider than the left. The main entrance is in the left bay, accessible by two concrete steps leading to a doorway with a granite cill, although the doorhead is missing. The right bay features a single window opening with brick dressings and a dressed granite cill, again without a surviving frame.

The south-facing (left) elevation is canted, with a single window opening on each cheek; the window on the left cheek is now infilled with brick. The west elevation is partially obscured by a low lean-to and a one-story concrete block outhouse with a shallow monopitched roof. The collapsed west wall suggests a former window, with a low cill remaining. A small window is present on the left cheek, and the right cheek is blank. The north (right gable) elevation has a central two-paned timber casement window. A doorway, seemingly infilled with granite, is visible on the party gable shared with the outhouse, although its presence is less clear internally. The house is currently recorded as derelict and has commercial ownership.
