Description
This is a direct-entry vernacular house, likely constructed between 1820 and 1839. It is situated on the main Rosslea-Lisnaskea road in the townland of Dresternan, near Rosslea, County Fermanagh. The building is aligned roughly east-west and is one-and-a-half storeys high with two bays. It was originally thatched, but now has a pitched corrugated metal roof with a single brick chimney to the right gable. Half-round cast-iron rainwater goods are present.
The south-facing principal elevation is built of random rubble stone with remnants of lime render. The right bay features a door to the left and a window to the right. The door is t+g sheeted with a latch. Above the door is a transom rising to eaves level, containing a pair of 2/2 sliding sash windows that illuminate the attic bedroom. The window on the right is a 2/2 sliding sash with painted stone cills and reveals. The left bay retains the remains of a similar window. The left gable abuts a lean-to structure, also detailed as a house, featuring a door opening to the front face, and a window to the apex in the exposed section. The rear elevation has a single window to the left bay, and the right gable is blank.
Internally, the house retains some original fabric and a traditional fireplace. The building appears on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834, suggesting it may be the present structure.
