Description
This is a small, one and a half storey house with dormers, built around the fabric of an earlier dwelling likely dating before 1834, though significantly altered in recent years resulting in a sharp, modern appearance. The property is located to the east of Lough Shore Road, approximately one and a half miles northwest of Portaferry.
The front (south) elevation features an off-centre gabled porch with a modern timber two-pane window. The western face of the porch is blank, and a timber front door is located on the east side. Identical timber windows flank the porch on the main facade. The east elevation of the main house has a similar window to the left, with a smaller attic window directly above. A timber-sheeted door and two matching windows are situated to the side. The west gable mirrors the east gable's window arrangement, with a window to the left and large timber ‘patio’ doors to the right. The rear elevation has a window of the same style, with a gable return to the left featuring a timber glazed door. The entire house is finished with lined render and a chamfered plinth. The main house and return have pitched roofs covered with ‘Thru-tone’ composite slates, with gabled dormers to the front elevation containing timber casement windows and tongue and groove sides. Three Velux windows are located on the rear of the main roof. There are three rendered chimney stacks with uniform pots. The house has PVC gutters and downspouts.
A building is depicted on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map, which likely corresponds to the house seen today. A complete renovation occurred in 1993-94, including the construction of a new return, the addition of a porch and dormers, re-roofing, and rendering. The house was likely constructed between 1980 and 1999.
