This is a long, single-storey vernacular cottage, likely built before 1834, situated on a slight slope on the north side of Marlfield Road, approximately two and a half miles north of Portaferry. The roof is a mix of slate and corrugated iron. The original slated section may have been a single-room vernacular cottage, while the corrugated iron section may have initially served as a byre before being integrated into the dwelling. The front, or southwestern, elevation features a centrally positioned plain timber door, with a two-pane timber window with a top-hung upper opener to the left, and two similar windows to the right. Both gables are blank. The rear elevation possesses a variety of steel windows in different sizes and designs, but lacks a back door. An older, smaller building is depicted on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834, which likely corresponds to the original part of the present dwelling. The property is currently used as a holiday home. Historical records including Ordnance Survey maps from 1834, 1860, and 1899-1900, and Griffith’s Valuation of 1861, indicate the building’s evolution.
