Description
This is a relatively plain, two-storey farmhouse built around 1910, located on the west side of Killinchy Road, approximately 2.5 miles south of Comber. The original front (east) facade features a central glazed door topped with a segmental arch fanlight containing spoked tracery – all of these elements are replacements. The door is set within a simple surround and is accessed by three steps. Sash windows with matching surrounds flank the doorway. Three similar, though slightly smaller, windows are present on the first floor. Ground-floor sash windows are visible on the north side and in the south gable. The south gable was undergoing chimney breast repair work at the time of inspection.
A substantial two-storey gabled return projects from the rear of the house. Constructed largely between 1998 and 1999, it is significantly larger than the original farmhouse and appears to have been built around what was originally a smaller, possibly flat-roofed, return. This new addition has PVC windows of varying sizes and a set of partially glazed double doors on its south face. The north face is still unfinished, with a large gabled section awaiting completion. The roof is covered with Bangor Blue slates, and the original section features two brick chimney stacks. The original part of the house is finished with lined render, chamfered quoins and a base, while the return is finished in rough cast. The windows and rainwater goods are a mix of metal and PVC.
The current owner recalls his late father mentioning that the Gabbey brothers, possibly draughtsmen, built the farmhouse, placing the construction date around 1910.
