Description

The site contains the remains of a prehistoric chambered grave, also known as a dolmen, located near 9 Ballygraffan Road, Ballygraffan, Comber, County Down. Dating from the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age periods, the dolmen is situated near the edge of a field approximately two miles south of Comber. It consists of a large basalt capstone, measuring just under a metre in thickness, resting on a small rock outcrop. Below the capstone are several smaller stones, and two large boulders which likely formed part of the original support system, but have since collapsed under the capstone’s weight. The entire structure is partially overgrown with grass. The site is recorded in the Northern Ireland Sites and Monuments Record as DOW 10:36. It is a monument and currently serves as an archaeological site, situated on privately owned land.
