Windmill Stump, off Ballygraffan Road, Cullintraw, Comber, Co. Down

The ruinous remains of a rubble-built windmill stump, likely dating from before 1810, stand in a field to the south of the Ballygraffan Road, approximately 1.5 miles southeast of Comber town centre. The stump is roughly 6 metres high and 3.5 metres in diameter, with walls approximately 1 metre thick, and has a slightly battered appearance. The northern side of the structure has largely collapsed, while the southern side features a small doorway with a tiny window above. The windmill is depicted on James Williamson’s map of 1810 and the Ordnance Survey map of 1834. It was not included in the 1833 valuation and was marked as a 'windmill stump' on the 1858 Ordnance Survey map, indicating it had been abandoned by that time. The structure is of industrial archaeological interest and is currently derelict.
