White Horse Inn, 61-63 Main Street, Carrowdore, Millisle, Newtownards, Co Down, BT22 2HN

The White Horse Inn is a large, two-storey public house of possible pre-1804 origin, located on the southeastern side of Main Street in Carrowdore, near Millisle. A building is depicted on Ordnance Survey maps dating to 1833/4 and 1858/60, and was likely one of several spirit grocers and two-storey slated houses noted in the Ordnance Survey Memoirs of around 1834. Deeds held by the current owner date to 1804, the year the premises were converted for use as a public house.

The facade facing onto Main Street has a centrally positioned timber-sheeted door flanked by a large multi-pane window to its left and another timber-sheeted door to its right. Further to the right are two additional windows of a similar style. The first floor has four smaller windows, now with PVC frames and modern louvered shutters. Four internally illuminated projecting PVC pub signs are attached to this floor, with laminated pub signs positioned between the ground and first floors. The gables are blank.

The rear of the building has been significantly extended on multiple occasions and now features large, modern one and two-storey additions with modern doors, windows, and mono-pitched roofs having a very shallow pitch. The original roof is pitched and covered with Bangor blue slates to the front and pan tiles to the rear. Four evenly spaced rendered chimney stacks are present. The facade is finished with rough cast rendering, and the rainwater goods are a mix of cast iron and PVC. The ground floor window openings appear to have been large for a considerable time, possibly from their original design.
