Description
58 Water Street, formerly known as The White Horse Inn, is a building believed to have been constructed in 1425. It is a long, timber-framed and plastered structure with the timber-framing visible on the front. The building has two storeys, with the upper storey originally jettied and extended with timber-framing in the 17th century. The front features a range of four modern casement windows with glazing bars, which have been inserted into the old window openings. There is a carved bressumer on the front as well.
On the ground floor, there are two former shop windows with glazing bars, likely dating from the 18th or early 19th century, as well as one tripartite double-hung sash window with glazing bars and narrow side lights. The doorway features an old four-centred arch with carved spandrels. Inside, the building has heavy exposed ceiling beams and joists, with one room showcasing well-crafted moulded joists and original open fireplaces.
